The Class of 2026 achieved impressive outcomes across the curriculum, with particularly strong performances in the core subjects. In Mathematics, 85% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above, while 79% reached the same standard in English. Overall, 74% of students secured Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, with more than half achieving the stronger Grade 5+ benchmark in both subjects.
Science was another area of significant success. A total of 77% of students achieved the standard pass measure, while 49% secured a strong pass. Both outcomes were comfortably above available comparison figures, reinforcing the school's strong performance across the core curriculum.
Students studying the Triple Science pathway achieved exceptional results, with 100% of grades awarded at Grade 5 or above in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Particularly impressive were the proportions of students achieving the highest Grade 9, with 21% in both Biology and Chemistry, and 13% in Physics.
There were also outstanding performances across a wide range of subjects. Photography, Food Preparation and Nutrition, and Drama all achieved results placing them among the top-performing subjects nationally. Most notably, one Madeley student achieved the extraordinary distinction of securing a Grade 9, the highest possible GCSE grade, in every subject taken.
Alongside these exceptional achievements were countless personal success stories, with many students exceeding expectations, overcoming challenges and reaching goals that reflected their individual journeys throughout their time at the school.
Principal Praises Students, Staff and Families
Principal Lee Nixon paid tribute to the determination of students and the support provided by staff, families and the wider school community.
“Results Day is always an incredibly special day at Madeley, and I couldn't be prouder of this group of young people and everything they have achieved.
There are some exceptional results to celebrate, including achievements at the very highest level, but today is really about every individual student and the journey they have made. For some, their greatest achievement will be a string of Grades 8 and 9; for others, it will be securing the grades they need to take that important next step. Both deserve our recognition and pride.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our staff. The care, expertise and commitment they show our students extend far beyond anything that can be measured in examination statistics. My thanks also go to our parents and families, whose support and encouragement have been so important throughout.
It was also wonderful to share part of such a special morning with Shaw Education Trust CEO Kerry Inscker, who visited Madeley to congratulate our students and staff and share in the celebrations. We are extremely grateful for the support and encouragement we receive from colleagues across the Trust.
Most importantly, congratulations to our students. They leave us with exciting futures ahead of them and with the knowledge that the whole Madeley community is immensely proud of them. We wish every one of them every success and happiness in whatever comes next.”
Looking Ahead
Students will now move on to a wide range of sixth form courses, colleges, apprenticeships and training opportunities, taking with them the knowledge, skills and confidence developed during their time at Madeley High School.
